- The founder of aikido, Morihei Ueshiba, was born in Nishinoya Village (present-day
Tanabe City), Nishimutai District, Wakayama Prefecture, and practiced martial
arts from an early age Japan including Daito-ryu Aiki Jiu-Jitsu and perfected
aikido in Iwama, Ibaraki Prefecture after the war.
This perfected technique is called "Takesan Aikido".
